Hill Country Boards was founded in 2022 by Johnny Sotello, a former Navy SEAL, who was born in San Antonio, TX and raised in the beautiful hill country Texas German town of Boerne. He grew up hunting, fishing, and swimming in the beautiful Texas Hill Country. The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic led to many fellow Texans and Americans to become more self-sufficient during food and household supply shortages. A direct result of these food shortages led to Americans joining the farm-to-table and field-to-table social movements. In turn it also led to us having many more meals at our tables with family and friends.
Johnny learned how to BBQ from his father, uncles, and other family members growing up in the hill country. Family BBQs and meals continue to be an important part of Hill Country Boards. It is something he is still passionate about to this day and it is what inspired him to start Hill Country Boards. Our hope is that we create custom engraved cutting boards that are beautiful, durable, and functional family heirlooms that can be passed down from generation to generation.
Hill Country Boards’ logo was inspired by the U.S. Navy SEAL insignia, our love of barbequing, the longhorn carving fork, and the world famous Texas Longhorn
